the three hares in winter

The village of Long Melford in south Suffolk, not far from my studio, is one of my favourite places to walk ... especially in winter. As I walk across the meadows to the majestic avenue of lime trees festooned with huge spheres of mistletoe, I like to imagine the famous three hares whose timeless faces look out from the fragment of medieval stained glass in the church window behind me, dancing over the frosty grass in a wheel of joy.
